The History
Did you know that up until the 1920s those who had a suntan were seen as being poor? Being tanned was a sign that you spent too much time outside in the sun and worked a job such as a servant or slave. Pale meant beautiful and wealthy!
In 1920 the ever glamorous Coco Chanel returned from a holiday on the French Riviera sporting a bronzed golden glow. Her tanned skin looked tasteful and since then has signified glamour; soon everyone was craving the look and women started using products such as tea bags and even gravy granules to give their skin a touch of colour.
It wasn't until the 1950s that the first self tan was developed and since then things have come a long way. The noughties was the era of being 'tangeod' with many stars rocking a dodgy carrot glow...

The Facts
With so many tans on the market now days we don't blame you for not knowing where to begin! The main differences between self tans are the formulas used and the time they take to develop.
Gradual: A gradual tan provides a subtle but healthy glow, you can build the colour up day by day and it is a great tan for topping up a natural tan after a holiday. Apply one coat and over 24 hours the tan will develop. If you wish to go darker apply a second coat the next day. Use the tan every couple of days to keep the colour fresh. A gradual tan is a great option for those unsure on self tanning as it is hard to go wrong with such a gentle colour.
Developing: A developing tan is usually available in a number of shades, you simple apply, let the colour develop then wash off and you are left with a gorgeous golden glow. When applying your developing tan always shave/wax and exfoliate the skin 24 hours prior for a smooth base (don't forget exfoliation is key for streak free results). Tan your whole body using a application mitt, wait 60 seconds for the tan to dry then get dressed. It is best to apply a developing tan before bed so then it can develop overnight. In the morning (or 8 hours later) simply rinse of the guide colour of the tan and you will be left with a lovely golden glow. Simple!
Instant: A instant tan is great for those busy girls who just can't wait for a tan to develop. As the tan suggest the colour shows instantly so you can simply apply your tan and go straight out. The only downside to an instant tan is that when in contact with water it may streak so avoid activities which make you perspire and going out in the rain.
The Formulas
At Lauren's Way our tans are available in three different formulas
Lotion: A lotion tan is a thick, liquid consistency meaning it glides on skin easily and provides flawless coverage.
Mousse: A mousse is a velvety soft, light formula and similar to a foam. It is very easy to apply and blend and provides streak free results.
Spray: A spray bottle tan allows for quick and easy application. The consistency is similar to a lotion, thick and moisturising, but in the comfort of a spray bottle.
The colours

Medium: Our medium range is fab for fair skin tones and those first-time tanners. The colour pay of is natural and gorgeous - no one will ever know you've faked it!
Dark: Our dark tans are great for medium to olive skins tones and lovers of a sunkissed look. The colour is still natural but deep - it will leave people thinking you've just come back from the Caribbean for two weeks.
Darker than Dark: Our darker than dark tans are perfect for olive and darker skin tones. If you are an experienced tanner looking for a deep, dark tan then this is the tan for you!
